- GENERAL INFORMATION ON COOKIES
Pursuant to the GDPR, as well as in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Authority with the resolution of 8.05.2014 and the guidelines issued on 10.06.2021 for identifying simplified methods for providing information and acquiring consent for the use of cookies and in compliance with all subsequent clarifications, the Data Controller provides its Cookie Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small code strings that the websites visited by the user send to their terminal (usually to the browser: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.), where they are stored to be retransmitted to the same sites on the next visit or subsequent access by the same user.
Why are they useful?
By using cookies, the visited website recognizes the user’s device, improving the browsing experience. Among the various purposes of cookies is to allow the user to navigate effectively between web pages, remember favorite sites, store the language, etc.; cookies also help ensure that the advertising content displayed online is more targeted to the user’s specific interests.
Classification of cookies
Cookies are classified into different types:
In relation to duration, the cookie can be session-based, meaning it is automatically deleted when the browser is closed, or persistent, meaning it is active until its expiration date or until deleted by the user;
In relation to origin, the cookie can be first-party, meaning sent to the browser directly by the site being visited, or third-party, meaning sent to the browser by other sites and not by the site being visited.
In relation to purpose, the cookie can be technical or profiling.
Other technologies similar to cookies
It is appropriate to specify that the purposes usually fulfilled by a cookie can also be achieved through other similar technologies, including the use of certain functionalities that allow identifying devices to analyze visits to a website. This information, therefore, applies to any technology that stores or accesses information on the user’s device. Examples might include HTML5 local storage, Local Shared Objects (also called flash cookies), and fingerprinting techniques. Device fingerprinting, in particular, is a technique that involves combining a series of information to uniquely identify a particular device. Examples of information that device fingerprinting can detect, associate, or infer include:
- Data derived from device configuration;
- Data inferred from the use of particular network protocols;
- JavaScript;
- HTTP header information, clock information;
- Installed fonts;
- Installed browser plugins.
From now on, when cookies are mentioned, this definition will also include other similar technologies.
Technical cookie
Allows improving the user’s browsing experience. Indeed, without the use of technical cookies, some operations would be very complex or impossible to perform. These cookies – which could be first or third-party, session or persistent – do not require the user’s prior consent for installation.
Technical cookies are “strictly necessary” when they allow effective navigation of the website and the use of essential features, such as enabling authentication or storing previous actions. Blocking the use of these cookies could compromise the user’s browsing experience.
Instead, technical cookies are “functionality” cookies when they improve the browsing experience by storing user preferences, such as language, name, location. Blocking these cookies will not compromise the browsing experience, but the user will not be able to use such useful services.
Technical cookies are “analytics” cookies when they allow collecting information on how users interact with the site, analyzing the number of pages visited, the time spent on the website, the most visited pages, and any issues encountered during navigation, such as page errors. These cookies allow the website owner to obtain statistical data on navigation and improve the services offered to the user.
Analytics cookies have a technical nature – not profiling – only when the website owner has adopted suitable tools to reduce the identifying power of the analytics cookies used, by masking significant portions of the IP address. For the installation of technical cookies, it is not necessary to collect the user’s prior consent; therefore, if the website uses only technical cookies, the data controller is not required to collect consent through the cookie banner. The extended information (the one you are reading right now) is instead mandatory.
Profiling cookie
It is activated only after the user’s consent is given. Consent is given by clicking “OK” (or “continue”, etc.) on the banner on the homepage or another page of the same site or by an active user intervention (e.g., by selecting an item contained in the page below the banner itself).
The profiling cookie serves to improve the services offered by the Data Controller and to select and send advertisements based on the preferences and tastes shown by the user during navigation. The use of profiling cookies for targeted advertising does not imply the display of more advertisements, nor will the browsing experience be hindered. In fact, with the deactivation of profiling cookies, the user will see, instead of advertisements in line with their interests, only generic advertisements. For example, third-party analytics statistical cookies without IP masking and without data crossing, or advertising, tracking, or conversion cookies, are profiling cookies.
- HOW TO MANAGE COOKIE PREFERENCES
At the first access to any page of the Site, there is a banner containing:
- A brief information;
- A button through which the user can accept all cookies;
- A button through which the user rejects the installation of cookies, except for technical ones;
- A button (“details”) that allows access to a dashboard through which the user can select individual types of cookies to install.
In any case, except for the user’s prior consent in the case of installing profiling cookies,
users can express their cookie preferences through the settings of the browser used. By default, almost all web browsers are set to automatically accept cookies, but users can change the default configuration through the settings of the browser used, which allow deleting/removing all or some cookies or blocking the sending of cookies or limiting it to certain sites.
Disabling/blocking cookies or their deletion could compromise the optimal use of some areas of the site or prevent some functionalities, as well as affect the operation of third-party services.
The configuration of cookie management depends on the browser used. Below are instructions and links to guides for managing cookies for the main desktop browsers:

If the user uses multiple browsers, the procedure for deleting cookies must be carried out for each of them. If the user uses different devices (such as smartphones or tablets), to uninstall cookies, refer to the instruction manual of the device. It is appropriate to specify that if you choose to block the receipt of cookies, this may compromise or prevent the proper functioning of the website as some cookies are strictly necessary for navigation.
